FG engrossed in inconsequential affairs despite rising insecurity – Atiku Abubakar
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized the Federal Government for neglecting the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, focusing instead on arresting protesters. His statement comes after a terrorist attack in Yobe state on Sunday claimed several lives and destroyed numerous villages.
Atiku condemned the attack, saying, “Despite the tragic bloodshed in Yobe… and the rampant destruction across numerous villages… the government seems to remain detached, engrossed in inconsequential affairs.” He also lamented the failure of the current security framework, demanding immediate and comprehensive reform.
The attack in Yobe state occurred near the hometown of late Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, with insurgents killing many and burning down several houses. Police spokesman Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the attack, stating that the actual number of casualties is still unknown.
In a related development, the Kaduna State government held funeral prayers for the 34 victims on Tuesday. Deputy Governor Idi Barde-Gubana sympathized with the victims and announced plans to work with the Federal Government to establish a military formation in the area. The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has been directed to care for displaced persons and those injured in the attack.
The turmoil extends to the South, where disquiet wrought by Boko Haram and political discord threatens the nation’s peace. Atiku implored the Tinubu administration to demonstrate a heightened commitment to safeguarding life and property across the nation.
