Arik Air partners Hospitals for Humanity to offer free heart surgeries for Nigerian children

Nigerian airline Arik Air has announced a partnership with the non-profit organization Hospitals for Humanity to provide free open-heart surgeries for approximately 150 Nigerian children annually.

As part of the collaboration, Arik Air will offer flight support for Hospitals for Humanity’s medical missions to Nigeria. These missions will bring together volunteer pediatric cardiac surgeons and healthcare professionals from around the world to perform complex, life-saving heart surgeries at no cost to the children’s families.

Arik Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Captain Roy Ilegbodu, expressed pride in the initiative, noting its alignment with the airline’s broader commitment to social responsibility.

“We are honoured to stand alongside Hospitals for Humanity in their mission to give hope and a second chance at life to children with congenital heart defects,” said Ilegbodu. “This initiative aligns with Arik Air’s dedication to not only connecting people through air travel but also investing in the wellbeing of our communities.”

Founder and CEO of Hospitals for Humanity, Dr. Segun Ajayi, also emphasized the importance of the partnership.

“Over the years, Hospitals for Humanity has performed numerous successful surgeries and impacted countless lives. However, the demand remains high, and with continued support from organisations like Arik Air, even more children can receive the critical care they need,” Ajayi said.

The partnership marks a significant step toward addressing the urgent healthcare needs of children with congenital heart conditions in Nigeria.
