APC will back Tinubu’s preferred candidate for Osun governorship – Bashiru

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State will align fully with President Bola Tinubu’s choice for the upcoming governorship election, according to the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru.
Speaking during an interactive session with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bashiru stated unequivocally that President Tinubu’s decision is final and will guide the party’s direction in the state.
“Whatever President Tinubu says on issues of Osun stands. We can afford to follow the President blindfoldedly,” Bashiru said.
“He takes decisions from the position of wisdom and the position of what will advance the larger interest of the progressives.”
Speculations about Adeleke endorsement
His remarks come amid growing speculation that Tinubu may be quietly supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the next gubernatorial race.
DAILY POST previously reported internal concerns within the Osun APC, where some members have warned that Tinubu’s perceived support for Adeleke could jeopardize the APC’s electoral chances.
However, Bashiru appeared to dismiss those fears, signaling that the party is ready to align with the President’s political calculations, regardless of perceived contradictions.
“Nigerians trust Tinubu” — Bashiru
Bashiru praised President Tinubu’s leadership, saying the APC and a majority of Nigerians have confidence in his judgment and policies.
His statement adds fuel to the ongoing political debate in Osun, where intra-party tensions have grown over questions of loyalty, strategy, and electoral viability. The implication that the APC could back a non-party incumbent — or at least not oppose him — has raised eyebrows and may shape how the party approaches its internal primaries and candidate selection process.
As the 2026 governorship election cycle nears, the APC’s posture in Osun will be closely watched for signs of either party unity or further fragmentation.
