APC policies are uniting the opposition for 2027

Simon Achuba, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has claimed that the All Progressives Congress, APC, is unintentionally helping to unify opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. The former Deputy Governor of Kogi State noted that the current economic and social policies of the ruling party are creating a common ground for rival political groups to merge. According to him, the hardship faced by Nigerians is the primary catalyst that will drive the formation of a formidable mega-party to challenge the APC’s dominance.

Achuba argued that the ruling party has failed to deliver on its promises of “Renewed Hope,” leading to widespread disenchantment across the country. He believes that the opposition no longer needs to work hard to convince people that a change is necessary because the reality on the ground speaks for itself. The politician emphasized that the ADC is already engaging in high-level talks with other major stakeholders to create a unified front that can withstand the incumbency power of the APC.

Building a mega party to challenge the status quo

The ADC chieftain noted that the fragmented nature of the opposition was the major reason the APC secured victory in the previous election cycle. He suggested that lessons have been learned and that leaders from the PDP, Labour Party, and other smaller platforms are now more open to concessions. Achuba believes that the common goal of “rescuing Nigeria” will override personal ambitions and regional interests as the 2027 date approaches.

He pointed out that the current administration’s approach to fuel subsidy removal and currency floating has pushed many Nigerians into extreme poverty. This shared pain, according to Achuba, is what is bringing the various opposition elements together to discuss a shared ideology. He warned that if the opposition fails to unite, they will simply be handing the ruling party another four-year term on a silver platter.

Addressing the internal crisis within the ruling party

Achuba also touched on the perceived cracks within the APC itself, suggesting that many disgruntled members are looking for an exit strategy. He claimed that the “winner-takes-all” attitude of the current leadership has alienated several founding members of the party. These individuals are reportedly looking toward the emerging opposition coalition as a viable alternative for their political futures.

The politician argued that a healthy democracy requires a strong and vibrant opposition that can hold the government accountable. He lamented that the APC has tried to stifle dissent, but he believes the sheer weight of public opinion will eventually break the party’s grip on power. For Achuba, the 2027 election is not just about a change of faces but a total overhaul of the governance system in Nigeria.

The role of the ADC in the coming alliance

As a key player in the ADC, Achuba stated that his party is willing to sacrifice its identity if it means creating a more powerful platform for national development. He praised the leadership of the ADC for being proactive in reaching out to other groups and for maintaining a clean record of internal democracy. The goal is to build a party that is driven by the needs of the masses rather than the whims of a few godfathers.

He urged Nigerians to stay hopeful and to remain active in the political process by ensuring they have their voter cards ready. Achuba believes that the power to change the narrative of the country lies in the hands of the youth, who are the most affected by the current economic downturn. The ADC remains committed to providing a platform that empowers young leaders and women in the upcoming electoral cycle.
