APC Kano spokesperson dismisses claims of protest against Ganduje over Shettima omission

On Monday, June 16, Ahmad Aruwa, spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, dismissed reports that the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was protested against at the recent Northeast Zonal meeting in Gombe for failing to mention Vice President Kashim Shettima’s name.

A video circulating on Sunday showed security personnel managing a crowd as Ganduje left the event, with some interpreting it as a protest by APC members unhappy that Shettima—an indigene of the region—was not acknowledged during the endorsement of President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

Aruwa denied these claims, stating, “There was no booing or protest against Ganduje. As a senior party official, he was simply escorted to his car, that’s all.”

He noted that the omission of Shettima’s name was not unusual, citing similar instances at the APC national convention and endorsements by the Senate and House of Representatives, where Shettima’s name was also left out without causing uproar.

Aruwa further dismissed rumours that Shettima might be dropped from the 2027 ticket, attributing the noise to political opponents in Kano. He assured that both Tinubu and Shettima would be confirmed when the time comes.

The APC urged members to focus on party unity and progress, affirming that the Gombe meeting proceeded without incident.
