PETROAN chats with Nigeria’s oil minister regarding petrol price slash

On Monday, March 10, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, or PETROAN for short, had a big meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of State (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri. They talked about how to make things better for the part of the oil business that gets fuel to people like us, especially keeping prices steady.
PETROAN’s president, Billy Gillis-Harry, had some cool ideas. He asked the minister to give PETROAN members a set share of fuel forever. This would help make sure everyone in Nigeria gets fuel easily.
Billy also shared a super-smart plan called the PETROAN Quantity Assurance Quality Control Price Intelligence and Monitoring System. He asked the minister to say yes to it. This plan uses awesome tech to follow fuel from the storage place all the way to where it’s sold, keeping it safe.
He also said the government should let more people supply fuel. Why? Because when lots of people can sell fuel, they try to have the best prices, which is great for us!
Here’s what Billy said: “This will drive healthy competition and guarantee that our domestic prices will not exceed import parity, thereby ensuring the best possible affordability with sustainability.”
He also explained: “PETROAN believes in fair competition. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission must remain vigilant and active in protecting the market from unfair competition practices for the ultimate benefit of consumers and Nigerians.”
Plus, he had another brilliant idea: “PETROAN advocates for a well-equipped designated training centre across the six geopolitical zones for petroleum products, tanker drivers, and conductors. This will ensure that only trained and certified drivers operate on our roads, enhancing safety and preventing incessant gas explosions.”
