Amaechi says he has no regrets about joining APC

Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, has denied recent social media reports claiming he regrets joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). These reports suggested he was unhappy with how he has been treated by the party’s leadership.

The speculation followed a statement from Chief Tony Okocha, the caretaker committee chairman of the APC, who claimed Amaechi had warned against inviting him to party events.

In response, Chief Eze Chuekwuemeka Eze, a close ally of Amaechi, issued a statement on Monday, September 2. Eze clarified that Amaechi had never made any such statements and had not authorized anyone to spread such false information.

Eze emphasized that Amaechi does not regret his role in building and supporting the APC. He pointed out that issues with leadership are not uncommon in Nigerian politics and are not necessarily tied to a specific political party.

Eze also expressed frustration with the misinformation, stating, “The author of the vague piece in circulation is acting on their own, without any basis.”

He further clarified, “As a prominent member of Amaechi’s political circle, I am compelled to correct these falsehoods. Amaechi has always been a committed and strategic member of the APC, and any claims of regret are unfounded.”

Eze described the false report as a deliberate attempt to tarnish Amaechi’s reputation and undermine his contributions to the party and the country. He added that Amaechi’s silence on certain party matters is a personal decision and does not indicate regret.

Amaechi himself responded to the allegations, saying, “I did not say that rubbish. I am aware of the people behind these false claims, but their efforts are futile.”

He reaffirmed his pride in his contributions to the APC and his achievements in transforming Nigeria’s rail transportation and supporting President Buhari.
