Allied Air cargo plane crash-lands in Abuja, no casualties reported

On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, a cargo plane belonging to Allied Air made an emergency crash landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja. The incident occurred when one of the aircraft’s landing gears failed, causing the plane to land unexpectedly.

Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency expert, shared the news on his X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing that the plane was carrying six crew members at the time. Fortunately, there were no casualties, as the crew members were safely evacuated from the plane.

Makama added that the crew is currently being checked by medical personnel at the 063 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) medical unit.

“Emergency responders acted quickly to secure the crash site, blocking off the area under the supervision of the Military Airport Commandant (MAC) and other important agencies,” Makama said.

The crash has caused a temporary closure of the airport’s runway, resulting in delays for both arriving and departing flights. Passengers and airlines are being advised to expect disruptions until further notice.

Authorities, including the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), are working to remove the aircraft and inspect the runway for damage. They aim to restore normal operations as soon as possible. Further updates will be shared as investigations continue into the cause of the crash.
