Aiyedatiwa hosts APC leaders in Ondo, urges unity ahead of 2027 polls

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on Friday hosted leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state capital, Akure, as part of renewed efforts to reposition and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the meeting, Aiyedatiwa stressed the importance of unity within the party and expressed confidence in the APC’s continued growth across the state.

According to him, the meeting was a replication of the national APC caucus at the state level and was designed to bring statutory party members under a central leadership structure.

He announced that the caucus would now meet regularly and emphasised that all support groups and stakeholders must operate within the framework of the party’s leadership.

“Our strength lies in our unity, and all of us as leaders of the APC in the state must come together to build on the foundation already laid.

“As we are heading towards general elections, it is expected that various support groups will spring up.

“All groups must be under the leadership of the central party structure, which has the state working committee and the state caucus as core components,” he said.

The governor further highlighted the National Economic Council’s decision to launch the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, which he described as a crucial step toward delivering grassroots development.

“We don’t have any pending governorship election here in Ondo State; therefore, we have to focus all our efforts on mobilising grassroots votes for the re-election of the President in 2027.

“It is granted that the President will win the election, however, for us in the South-West and Ondo State, the victory must be overwhelming,” Aiyedatiwa added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that during the meeting, party leaders unanimously threw their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term ambition and agreed to float a new structure tagged Ondo State for Tinubu 2027.

To coordinate the activities of the new caucus, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, and the APC State Secretary, Mrs. Roseline Okafor, were appointed to oversee its secretariat operations.

Also speaking with journalists after the event, Hon. Derin Adesida, who represents Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency, described the meeting as a constitutional requirement, saying it offers party leaders the opportunity to deliberate on critical issues affecting the APC.

Veteran APC chieftain, Mr. Sola Iji, applauded the governor for convening the meeting, describing it as timely and essential for internal party cohesion.

Similarly, Mr. Ifedayo Abegunde, Executive Director, Corporate Affairs at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), hailed Aiyedatiwa for his leadership, describing the move as a proactive step toward aligning the party’s structure with its long-term political goals.

The caucus meeting was attended by top APC leaders in Ondo State, including former office holders and current party executives.
