AFCON 2025: Uganda ready to challenge Super Eagles – Cranes captain Aucho

Uganda’s national team captain, Khalid Aucho, is confident that the Cranes will be able to compete with some of the top teams at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite being drawn into a tough group.

Uganda has been placed in Group C alongside three formidable sides: Nigeria, Tunisia, and regional rival Tanzania. Nigeria, the Super Eagles, have won the AFCON title three times, while Tunisia is a once-crowned champion. Both teams are widely considered the favorites to claim the top spots in the group.

However, Aucho, who currently plays for Tanzanian Premier League club Young Africans, believes his team has what it takes to compete with these heavyweights.

“Being at AFCON means you’re strong enough to compete with any team. I know my boys and they will deliver. We want to make our fans happy,” he said in an interview with fufa.co.ug.

Uganda will kick off their AFCON campaign against Tunisia on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in Morocco.
