AFCON 2025: Super Eagles vow to bounce back after Rwanda draw
The Super Eagles have responded to their 0-0 draw with Rwanda in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Tuesday, September 10, with a message of resilience and optimism.
In their matchday two encounter held in Kigali, the Super Eagles and the Amavubi failed to find the net. Rwanda initially dominated the early stages of the game, but Nigeria gradually took control, with Ademola Lookman creating several chances.
In the 20th minute, Lookman was set up by midfielder Wilfred Ndidi but his shot was saved by Rwandan goalkeeper Ntwari Fiacre. Lookman managed to score three minutes later, but his goal was controversially disallowed by the referee.
Victor Boniface also came close, hitting the woodwork nine minutes before halftime after being assisted by Lookman.
Despite various tactical adjustments by Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen in the second half, the match ended in a goalless stalemate.
The result keeps Nigeria at the top of Group D with four points from two matches. In a post-match update on X, the Super Eagles expressed gratitude to their supporters and looked ahead to their upcoming fixtures.
“FT in Kigali Rwanda 0-0 Nigeria. 4 points from two and we go again next month,” the Super Eagles tweeted. “Thank you everyone for your support and see you soon.”
