Adarabioyo welcomes Henderson, Welbeck as Chelsea adds experience to young squad
Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has described the club’s summer arrivals Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck as sources of pure experience and a winning mentality.
The 28-year-old told the club’s official website that both players bring qualities the squad can use. “They bring pure experience. At the same time, they are winners, so they are bringing that winning mentality to the club and hopefully we will continue that winning,” he said. He added that it was “obviously nice” no longer being the oldest player in the group, noting that Chelsea now have more older and experienced figures available.
Chelsea signed Henderson after the England international terminated his contract with Brentford. Welbeck arrived from Brighton on a two-year deal. Both moves mark a clear shift in recruitment emphasis. For several seasons the club has prioritised young talent, often leaving the dressing room short of players with extensive top-level mileage. The addition of two established professionals alters that balance.
Adarabioyo’s comments frame the signings in practical rather than romantic terms. Experience is presented as a concrete asset, and the presence of older players is treated as a structural correction rather than a sentimental gesture. In a squad still adjusting to high expectations and frequent changes in personnel, the value of players who have already managed pressure, tactical demands and the weekly intensity of the Premier League is straightforward.
Whether Henderson and Welbeck translate that experience into consistent minutes and measurable influence will depend on fitness, selection and how quickly they adapt to Chelsea’s patterns of play. Adarabioyo’s verdict, however, is unambiguous: the arrivals change the age and experience profile of the group, and that change is welcome. The club has chosen to supplement youth with proven campaigners. The test now is whether the combination produces the continuity and edge the defender believes it can deliver.
