Adamawa LG Election: Labour Party candidate accuses Shallom of certificate forgery

Gandume Gamaliel, the Labour Party chairmanship candidate for Guyuk Local Government Council, has requested the state Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal to annul the election of Kassa Dangi Shallom as chairman of Guyuk.

Gamaliel has alleged that Shallom, who represents the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), used a forged secondary school certificate to qualify for the election held on July 13, 2024. Shallom was declared the winner of the election by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC).

In his petition to the tribunal, Gamaliel contends that Shallom submitted a falsified West African Examination Council certificate to the election screening committee, which should have disqualified him. Despite this, Shallom was allowed to proceed, and ADSIEC subsequently declared him the winner.

Gamaliel expressed his astonishment that Shallom was permitted to participate in the election and ultimately sworn into office despite issues with his certificate. He is requesting the tribunal to order ADSIEC to revoke Shallom’s certificate of return and declare him, Gamaliel, as the rightful winner, given that he received the second highest number of votes.
