Abure defends leadership, heads to Supreme court over Labour Party crisis

Labour Party factional National Chairman, Julius Abure, has said the party under his leadership is not responsible for ongoing internal disputes, as he confirmed plans to challenge a recent Court of Appeal ruling at the Supreme Court.

Abure made the remarks on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television while reacting to the appellate court’s decision, which dismissed his suit and recognised Nenadi Usman as the party’s authentic national chairman.

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, in a unanimous judgment delivered by a three-member panel, dismissed Abure’s appeal challenging the leadership of the party.

Responding to the ruling, Abure maintained that he was not responsible for reigniting legal battles within the party, insisting that his actions were within legal bounds.

“I am not the one re-litigating on what the Supreme Court litigated upon. Sen Nenadi Usman is the one who went back to the Federal High Court,” he said.

He added that his faction had only appealed the Federal High Court judgment and was already preparing to approach the Supreme Court for final determination.

“We only appealed against the judgment of the Federal High Court, and we are already preparing to go to the Supreme Court,” he said.

Abure insisted that the Labour Party under his leadership remains committed to stability, stating, “Nigerians must know that the Labour Party under my leadership is not the trouble-makers of the party.”
