Abia’s Health Commissioner steps down amid suspension

Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, the suspended Commissioner for Health in Abia State, has tendered her resignation to Governor Alex Otti. This development comes after her suspension on June 11, 2024, over alleged financial misconduct.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Njoku Ukoha, Dr. Okoronkwo submitted her resignation letter to the Governor on Tuesday, despite the ongoing investigation into her alleged misconduct.

Governor Otti accepted her resignation and expressed gratitude for her services and achievements in repositioning Abia’s Health Sector during her tenure. He also wished her well in her future endeavors.

The Governor reiterated his commitment to transforming Abia State, emphasizing that his mandate includes assembling his team, hiring, suspending, or sacking appointees as needed. He also noted that he has the authority to reorganize and reshuffle his cabinet to ensure the delivery of his promises to the people.

Dr. Okoronkwo’s resignation marks the third commissioner to leave Governor Otti’s administration, following the recent resignations of the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Chima Oriaku, and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. Monica Ironkwe.
