Kenneth Okonkwo cuts ties with Peter Obi, Labour Party
Kenneth Okonkwo, a lawyer and seasoned Nollywood actor, has announced his departure from the Labour Party and ended his association with Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate. Okonkwo, who served as the spokesman for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, cited persistent internal crises within the party and Obi’s failure to resolve them as reasons for his decision.
Okonkwo expressed a loss of confidence in Obi’s ability to restore unity and lead the party to victory in upcoming elections. He criticized Obi for not leveraging his influence to address the party’s ongoing challenges since the 2023 elections, and for not supporting the Labour Unions’ efforts to fight for the party’s soul.
Okonkwo stated that he was initially hopeful that Obi would build a strong party platform, but was disappointed by his failure to do so. He also expressed concern that Obi’s ambivalence on key issues has left party members confused and uncertain about the party’s future. As a result, Okonkwo has decided to continue his political journey without Peter Obi, and will support the Labour Unions and other stakeholders in their efforts to reclaim the party.
