Minimum Wage: Governor Fubara denies promising workers N80,000
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied reports that he promised to pay a minimum wage of ₦80,000 to workers in the state and local government areas.
Fubara described the reports as “unverified claims” circulating online, stating that he never made such a promise.
Specifically, he debunked a report by Newsweekng.com titled “Breaking News: Governor Fubara Proposes N80,000 minimum wage” as “totally false and misleading”.
The governor’s denial comes amidst speculation and expectations from workers in the state, who had hoped for a significant increase in the minimum wage.
In a statement, the Rivers State Government warned the public, particularly civil servants, to disregard the false claims. “The Rivers State Government will make its position on the issue known in due course,” it added.
