Kano Assembly establishes second-class emirates in Karaye LGA, two others
The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Emirates Council Establishment Bill 2024 after the bill scaled a third reading.
The bill was sponsored by a lawmaker representing the Rimin Gado/Tofa state constituency, Muhammad Bello Bututu, and was signed on Tuesday, July 16.
It seeks to establish Kano as a first-class emirate while Rano, Gaya, and Karaye would remain as second-class emirates.
According to the bill, Emirs of the three second-class emirates would be answerable to the Emir of Kano and will have powers to advise him on any matter relating to the maintenance of public order, boundary dispute or dispute between two or more people within their areas of jurisdiction.
