Euro 2024: Ollie Watkins strikes late to send England to second consecutive final
England fans thought it was going to be another extra time and penalty shootout showing as Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands held the Three Lions to a 1-1 draw for the whole game, but super substitute Ollie Watkins became a national hero when he struck home in the 91st minute to send the country into ecstasy.
Netherlands started the game well, but the tables turned after Koeman’s men went 1-0 up in the seventh minute through a superb strike by Xavi Simons.
The lead didn’t last too long though, as England won a penalty in the 18th minute, which was converted by Harry Kane.
England got many more chances to score, but could not covert any of them. Netherlands was on the back foot for most of the game.
Things looked bleak until Watkins received a pass from Cole Palmer and struck the ball past Bart Verbruggen into the bottom corner in the 91st minute.
This means that England joins Spain in the final of the Euros.
Can England finally win it? Or will it be final another disappointment for England two times in a row.
