Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos has finally retired from professional football, after an outrageous trophy record.
To say he is decorated would be to say the Sun produces a bit of heat.
Recall that Kroos had announced just before the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund that he would retire from professional football after the 2024 Euros hosted by his home country.
Germany was knocked out of the Euros on Friday, July 5, after Spain scored in the 119th minute to seal a semifinal place against France.
Kroos released the announcement of his retirement mere hours after that, true to his word.
Kroos started his senior career at Bayern Munich, later going on loan to Bayer Leverkusen for one season, before moving to Real Madrid in July 2014.
Over his professional club career, he has amassed seven league titles, six UEFA Champions League titles, six Club World Cups, and four UEFA Supercups, amongst other major trophies.
Over his international career, he won one World Cup.
He played 492 games for his clubs and 114 games for his country, scoring 49 and 17 goals respectively.
Kroos is widely regarded as one of the best passers of all time, and by far the best passer of the last 10 years, with his unmatchable ability to control the speed and direction of games with his passing.
He will be missed.
