Judy and I are not married, we're just skit-making colleagues - Yul Edochie
Nollywood actor and son of Pete Edochie, Yul Edochie, has claimed in court that he never married Nollywood producer Muoghalu Uchechukwu Judith, popularly known as Judy Austin, despite having two children together and expecting a third, Premium Times reports.
He claimed their relationship is “all about skit-making” and insists the two have never legally tied the knot.
The legal team of May, his estranged wife, headed by Emeka Ugwuonye, on Sunday, revealed that the Nollywood actor said this in a file he submitted to the court.
In August 2023, May filed for divorce against Edochie, with details of the court proceedings kept under wraps so far, according to Premium Times.
Ugwuonye said the case, which is at FCT High Court, Abuja, slated for a hearing on March 5, faced a setback as the court session was not held, a circumstance Edochie and Austin claimed credit for.
Ugwuonye, who had been hushed about the case, now feels compelled to reveal some developments regarding the case.
Detailing the developments in the case, Ugwuonye pointed out what he thought to be the strategy employed by Edochie and Austin.
He said they claimed to be skit-makers, denying ever been married in a court of law.
Referencing Edochie’s filing, May’s lawyer detailed how the actor denied his marriage to Austin.
He said Edochie wrote, “That since the news of the birth of Star in June 2021, Gistlover, as a negative blog that thrives in fake and manipulated information for financial gains, has been negatively exploiting every movie or skit featuring me and Judy and generating social media traffic for financial gains.”
He said May’s initial petition was based on an article published by Gistlover on April 24, 2022, that referenced an alleged traditional marriage between Edochie and Austin. Edochie and Austin responded, denying the claim, and referring to the said article as a promotion of false information for money, essentially calling it a clickbait article.
However, Ugwuonye, noted that a “skit-making relationship” between colleagues has produced two children and is about to get the third.
Edochie’s relationship with Austin has produced two children, welcoming a son named Star Munachimso in June 2021, and a daughter later on.
According to May’s lawyer, the accused pair plans to argue that their social media content, including videos and posts, is part of a skit-making endeavor, drawing parallels with popular comedian Oga Sabinus.
