Powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake strikes Indonesia

On Monday, March 17, 2025, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 struck Seram, Indonesia, according to the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences.
The earthquake hit in the early hours of the morning, near Masohi, in Kabupaten Maluku Tengah, Maluku, Indonesia.
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported that the quake occurred at 2:32 am local time on Tuesday, at a shallow depth of just 10 km.
Shallow earthquakes, like this one, are often felt more intensely than deeper quakes because they are closer to the Earth’s surface. Based on early seismic data, the tremor was likely felt by many people in the region near the epicenter.
While the earthquake did not appear to cause major structural damage, it may have led to some minor effects, such as objects falling from shelves and broken windows.
