Drogba defends Mourinho against racist allegations from former club Galatasaray

On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, former Galatasaray striker Didier Drogba publicly defended Fenerbahce manager José Mourinho following accusations of racist remarks made by the Turkish club.
The allegations arose after Monday’s 0-0 draw between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, during which Mourinho reportedly referred to the Galatasaray bench as “jumping like monkeys.” In response, Galatasaray announced their intention to pursue criminal charges for the “racist statements” made by the Portuguese coach, also claiming that the comments were directed at the Turkish people.
However, Drogba, who played for Galatasaray and worked under Mourinho during their time at Chelsea, took to X to defend the 62-year-old manager. In a heartfelt message, Drogba called Mourinho his “dad” and expressed his belief that the accusations were unfounded.
“Dear @GalatasaraySK, You know how proud I was to wear the yellow and red jersey and my love for the most decorated club in Turkey!!” Drogba began.
“We all know how passionate and heated rivalries can be, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience it. I’ve seen the recent comments about Jose Mourinho. Trust me when I tell you, I have known Jose for 25 years, and he is not a racist—history (past and recent) is there to prove it.”
Drogba urged fans to focus on supporting their team, writing: “Let’s focus on our games, support our brilliant lions, and let’s win the league to get closer to our 5th star.”
He concluded by saying, “How can my ‘Dad’ be a racist… Come on, guys.”
