Tinubu is trying to undermine democracy, create one-party state – Ologbondiyan

On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Kola Ologbondiyan, the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of deploying anti-democratic tactics aimed at dismantling Nigeria’s democracy and steering the country towards a one-party state.

Ologbondiyan highlighted recent political events across the country as evidence of these strategies. In a statement he personally signed, he said, “In the last couple of days, indicators that @officialABAT’s government is coming up with anti-democratic methods have emerged in language and strategy.”

He pointed to several key incidents, starting with a controversial directive from National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, where he urged Canada to proceed “to hell” over a visa dispute, which Ologbondiyan believed could have been settled through diplomacy. He also criticized Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, for neglecting his diplomatic role to engage in domestic politics in Bauchi, focusing on a fight with Governor Bala Mohammed instead.

Ologbondiyan then turned to an alarming situation in Osun State, where Governor Ademola Adeleke had raised concerns over a potential attack allegedly coordinated by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, now Minister for Marine Business and a relative of President Tinubu. “When the attack rocked Osun State yesterday, it left in its wake a number of bagged bodies,” Ologbondiyan remarked.

He further mentioned a controversial call by Senator Ajibola Bashiru, the National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who openly called for a state of emergency in Osun State. Ologbondiyan suggested that this reckless demand contributed to the violence in the state.

The PDP leader also highlighted a brewing crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly (LSHA), where there was an orchestrated attempt to remove the sitting Speaker and reinstate the previous Speaker, a move that could potentially lead to further instability. “Reports in the public space revealed that security agents from @OfficialDSSNG and @PoliceNG worked against the wishes of the LSHA,” he said, questioning the role of the security agencies in this power struggle.

Ologbondiyan concluded by stating that these actions pointed toward one clear direction: to undermine Nigeria’s democracy and push the country into a one-party state.
