Court of Appeal confirms death sentence for Rahmon Adedoyin in Ondo
On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, upheld the death sentence of Rahmon Adedoyin, who was convicted for the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun State.
The court confirmed that Adedoyin’s conviction by the High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, was correct. However, the court also made a change regarding the trial court’s order for Adedoyin to forfeit his property to the state. The Court of Appeal decided that the original order for property forfeiture would be dismissed because Adedoyin had already been tasked with supporting the education of Adegoke’s children.
Timothy Adegoke, who was a chartered accountant and a student at Obafemi Awolowo University, tragically lost his life while staying at Adedoyin’s hotel in Ile-Ife, Osun State, while traveling to take his MBA exams.
Following the ruling, Fatima Adesina, who represented the state government, shared her thoughts. “The Court has upheld the conviction of the Trial Court for offenses like conspiracy to kill, unlawful killing, and accessory after the fact,” she said. “However, the Court quashed the order for the convict to be responsible for the education of the deceased’s children.”
