Ex-Barcelona star warns Trent Alexander-Arnold against joining Real Madrid
Former Barcelona midfielder Emmanuel Petit has advised Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold to think carefully before considering a move to Real Madrid.
The England defender has been linked with a potential transfer to the Spanish giants when his contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season. However, Petit, who had his own experience moving between top clubs, has warned Alexander-Arnold that life at Real Madrid might not be as rewarding as it seems.
Speaking to Casino Utan Spelpaus, Petit cautioned, “He’s been at Liverpool for such a long time. I know he’s been linked with Real Madrid. Honestly, if he goes over there, they don’t forgive anything at Real Madrid.”
Petit explained that even if Alexander-Arnold continues his strong performances with assists and goals, the pressure at Real Madrid would be overwhelming. “If Trent does what he does defensively at Real Madrid, they will kill him. It doesn’t matter if he gives assists or if he scores goals, they will kill him,” he warned.
Petit shared a personal experience from his own move to Barcelona, saying, “They told me, forget what you’ve done so far. You start on a new page. So now you have to write history with us.”
He also pointed to Real Madrid’s recent Super Cup final performance as a cautionary example, mentioning, “Look what happened at the Super Cup final? Oh my God. Defensively, it was a nightmare to watch for Real Madrid.”
Petit concluded with a strong piece of advice: “If I was Trent Alexander-Arnold, I would think about it twice.”
