Kano Assembly takes action to improve rural roads with state of emergency declaration

In a move to improve rural communities, the Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) has declared a state of emergency on rural roads across the state. The decision was made during a meeting on Monday, January 20, led by Speaker Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore, following a motion raised by Alhaji Abdul Abdulhamid, the representative from Minjibir constituency.

Abdulhamid explained that since the 10th Assembly began, around 90 motions had focused on urban roads, leaving rural areas with little attention. He argued that improving rural roads would not only make life easier for people in those areas but also help boost the economy.

“I urge the House to consider this motion due to its importance and call on the executive to implement this declaration for the development of the state,” Abdulhamid said.

Alhaji Salisu Ibrahim Muhammad, representing Doguwa constituency, supported the motion, stressing that good roads are vital for transporting goods, especially for farmers. He also pointed out that improving roads in rural areas would improve healthcare, education, and overall living conditions.

“Rural infrastructure is a political tool; it improves health, education, and boosts the economy through the value chain,” Muhammad explained.

After a thorough discussion, the House voted unanimously to adopt the resolution. They are urging the state government to take immediate action to improve rural roads and make this a top priority.
