The explosion of a petrol tanker killed many people, and Senator Banigo expressed her sadness over the event, calling it “pathetic and unfortunate.”

In a statement she shared on Monday, January 20, the senator sent her condolences to the people and government of Niger State. Over 70 lives were lost in the explosion, which took place on Saturday, January 18, along the Dikko-Maje road near Badeggi fueling station in Suleja Local Government Area. People had been trying to collect fuel spilling from the tanker when the disaster struck.

Mr. Kumar Tsukwam, the Federal Road Safety Commander in Niger, confirmed the tragedy, and the news spread quickly.

Senator Banigo expressed her deep sorrow for the families affected, saying, “This is a pathetic and unfortunate event.” She also offered prayers for the souls of those who passed away and for the quick recovery of those injured.

Banigo praised Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State for quickly visiting the site to assess the situation and help organize support for the victims. She also thanked the doctors and nurses at local hospitals who worked tirelessly to care for the injured, as well as agencies like the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigeria Police for their quick actions in helping the victims.

“May Almighty God provide comfort to the families of the victims and grant healing to those injured,” Senator Banigo said.

The senator also urged all drivers to be extra careful on the roads. “It’s important to follow safety rules, keep your vehicle in good shape, and drive responsibly to avoid such accidents in the future,” she added. Banigo stressed that everyone needs to work together to make the roads safer and prevent more tragic events like this one.
