Ogun State partners with IHV to fight tuberculosis

The Ogun State Government, in partnership with the Institute of Human Virology (IHV), has pledged to intensify efforts in reducing the prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) in the state.

This was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, by Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board. The meeting was focused on reviewing the progress of the state’s tuberculosis control project and addressing challenges in its implementation.

Ogunsola praised the contributions of stakeholders and encouraged them to continue sharing their expertise and suggestions to improve TB control in Ogun State.

Olusola Taiwo, the State Programme Manager for Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control, highlighted the state government’s commitment to reducing TB cases. While progress has been made, she acknowledged that challenges remain and urged for more collective action to overcome them.

Adeyemi Ajayi, the State Manager for the Institute of Human Virology, shared that the agency had implemented the Tuberculosis-Local Organising Network 3 (TB-LON 3) project, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). He emphasized that the local health authority team’s involvement has been crucial, as they are better positioned to address TB issues at the community level.

Dr. Atinuke Duze, speaking on behalf of health secretaries, commended the efforts of the Ogun State government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, to improve public health. She expressed optimism that the state would make significant strides in becoming a tuberculosis-free state.
