Darkoo accuses Mr. P of sabotaging new single, claims copyright abuse
British-Nigerian singer Darkoo has accused Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P of P-Square, of sabotaging the release of her latest single ‘Focus On Me (All the Sexy Girls in the Club)’, following a six-day takedown of the music video on YouTube.
In a series of posts on her X account on January 11, 2025, Darkoo claimed Mr. P acted out of spite after she declined his request to feature on the track, despite having secured full clearance for sampling P-Square’s 2009 hit ‘Gimme Dat’. She revealed that 50% of the royalties were allocated to P-Square as a mark of respect for their work, while expressing gratitude to Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) and Jude Okoye for their support.
“Let me be clear: I had all the necessary clearance for the sample… This is not my first rodeo using a sample, and I did everything by the book,” Darkoo wrote, accusing Mr. P of manipulating the situation and causing the video’s removal due to personal grievances.
She further alleged that Mr. P discouraged her from involving his brothers, claiming they would create unnecessary complications. Despite offering him a spot on the remix, Darkoo said Mr. P was dissatisfied and accused her of disrespecting him.
The singer lamented the emotional and financial toll caused by the takedown, calling Mr. P’s actions “disheartening” and “unbecoming of a legend.” She also confirmed that the video is now back online, urging veteran artists to foster collaboration rather than conflict.
Mr. P, who has faced previous public disputes with his brothers, Paul and Jude, has yet to respond to Darkoo’s claims. Meanwhile, ‘Focus On Me’ continues to attract attention for its nostalgic appeal and viral success.
