Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn has shared his prediction for the upcoming FA Cup clash between the Gunners and Manchester United. The third-round match will take place on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal head into the game following a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, while Manchester United played out a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in their last Premier League fixture.
Winterburn believes Arsenal’s squad strength will be the key factor in their success, predicting a 2-1 victory for Mikel Arteta’s side.
“The FA Cup clash between Arsenal and Manchester United is really important for both teams,” Winterburn told William Hill. “But you could argue that Arsenal, being second in the Premier League, still have the Carabao Cup and the Champions League to contend with, alongside the FA Cup. So, in that sense, this match is bigger for United.”
However, Winterburn emphasized that every competition matters for players, as they aim to win silverware. Despite Arsenal’s ongoing injury concerns, Winterburn feels the Gunners’ quality will prove decisive.
“I think this will be an Arsenal victory purely because of the quality their squad holds. It’ll be a tight match, but I’ll go for 2-1 Arsenal,” he added.
