Iyabo Ojo expresses regret over advocating for Mohbad’s exhumation
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has expressed deep regret over her previous advocacy for the exhumation of late singer Mohbad’s body. In an interview on the Talk to B podcast with Biola Bayo, Ojo reflected on the complications surrounding the singer’s burial and the ongoing family disputes that followed.
“I wouldn’t have requested that Mohbad be exhumed if I knew his case would turn out this way,” Ojo admitted during the interview on Monday, January 6. She continued, “He hasn’t been buried till now. His dad says he wants a DNA test done, and I heard the court has granted his request. But I heard his dad has conditions again.”
Ojo explained that her initial intention was solely to ensure an autopsy was performed to determine the cause of Mohbad’s sudden and controversial death. “I just wanted Mohbad’s body exhumed so they could do the autopsy to find out the cause of his death,” she said. “I did my best to be sure that everyone was investigated, but when they came up with different theories, DNA became more important to them.”
Mohbad tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, under mysterious circumstances. His body was buried the following day. However, following public outcry and calls for justice, the Lagos State police exhumed his body on September 21, 2023, to conduct an autopsy.
In October 2023, Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, insisted that the singer would not be reburied until a DNA test was conducted on Mohbad’s son, Liam. The situation has continued to spark heated debates and legal battles within the singer’s family.
