Tonto Dikeh warns public of new scam tactic involving fake transfer accusations

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has raised the alarm over a new scam method being used by fraudsters to extort unsuspecting individuals in public. In a post shared on her Instagram page, Dikeh detailed how the perpetrators use emotional manipulation and public pressure to carry out their scheme.

According to the actress, the fraudsters approach their target in a public space, crying, wailing, and accusing them of making a fake bank transfer for a supposed purchase. This dramatic display attracts a crowd, escalating tensions and putting the target under pressure to resolve the issue quickly by paying up. The alternative could be facing mob action or “jungle justice.”

Dikeh warned of the potential embarrassment, time loss, property theft, or even physical harm victims might face before the truth is uncovered. She urged the public to remain vigilant, stating, “Stay vigilant and stay safe because outside is wild these days.”

Nigerian celebrities have increasingly used their platforms to alert the public about fraudulent schemes. Yoruba actress Ronke Oshodi Oke had earlier warned her followers about a highway robbery tactic where criminals stage unusual events to lure unsuspecting motorists.

Both actresses’ efforts highlight the importance of public awareness in combating evolving scam tactics in Nigeria.
