We did not invade Enyimba Radio FM, harass workers – Abia government

The Abia State government has denied reports that it invaded Enyimba Radio FM’s premises in Aba and harassed workers with security agents. The government issued this response after the radio station’s management claimed that officials from the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) and Aba North Local Government Area (LGA) obstructed construction work at the station’s new site.

The station’s management had shared videos on Thursday, alleging that security agents were used to disrupt the work, and some staff members were arrested during the incident.

In a statement released on Friday, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, refuted the allegations, calling them false. He explained that there is an ongoing construction of a three-storey building, identified as a hotel, at the same location as Enyimba Radio FM.

Ekeoma further clarified that the Abia North Planning Authority (ABNPA) had repeatedly served legal notices to the developers, requesting compliance with development control laws. Despite these notices, the developers failed to submit necessary documents confirming their adherence to the rules and continued their construction work without approval.

He added, “On three occasions, the site was sealed as required by law, but the developers unlawfully removed the government seals and continued their work, which is an offense punishable by law.”

The statement emphasized that, like any other media organization, the Abia State government has no issue with Enyimba FM and did not take any action against the station or its staff.
