Mourinho responds to Guardiola in Financial Fair Play row

On Monday, December 9, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho responded to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, saying that while he respects Guardiola, he only seeks “justice” if City is found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

Mourinho and Guardiola have shared a fierce rivalry over the years, both on and off the pitch. Their battles started in Spain when Mourinho managed Real Madrid and Guardiola was at Barcelona, and later continued in England when Mourinho took charge of Manchester United while Guardiola led Manchester City.

Recently, Mourinho took a dig at Guardiola, claiming that he won his titles “fairly and cleanly,” referring to the current charges Manchester City faces over FFP violations. Guardiola responded by pointing out his impressive record of Premier League titles.

At a press conference on Monday, Mourinho kept the war of words going, saying, “Pep and I worked together for three years, we know we love each other. It is not true that I want them to be relegated, what is true is that I want justice.”

Mourinho added, “Small teams can sometimes be penalised by FFP when they exceed their limits by five to ten euros. I also suffered due to the limits when I was at Roma.”
