Organizers revoke Yemi Solade’s award after he refuses to pay for plaque, calling it extortion
On Thursday, December 5, Nigerian actor Yemi Solade revealed that organizers of a prestigious award had rescinded his recognition after he declined to pay for the associated plaque.
In a candid post shared on his Instagram page, Solade expressed his disappointment, stating that he does not belong to the class of individuals who purchase their awards. He went further to accuse the event organizers of engaging in extortion.
“I refused to pay for the AWARD PLAQUE. This is the outcome,” Solade wrote, alongside a screenshot of his conversation with a representative from the event organizers.
The leaked conversation revealed the following exchange:
“Good morning sir, trust you had a good night’s rest. I did revert your response regarding sponsorship to the management. However, I think it doesn’t sit well with them as they also disclosed how much the plaques cost. Hence, you can please attend but the award plaque may not be presented in order to save cost. Thank you for your kind understanding sir.”
This incident has sparked debates about the commercialization of awards within the entertainment industry.
