FCCPC to investigate customer complaints against MTN, GTBank, and Air Peace

On Monday, December 2, 2024, it was announced that the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) would be looking into complaints from customers against three big companies: MTN Nigeria, GTBank, and Air Peace Airline.

Remember when GTBank had a lot of problems with its banking services back in October 2024? The bank was switching to a new system, but things didn’t go smoothly. Customers had trouble getting access to their money, and digital banking services weren’t working properly.

Because of these issues, GTBank is now being investigated by the FCCPC after many unhappy customers made complaints. The FCCPC is also checking out two other companies—MTN Nigeria and Air Peace.

For MTN, customers have been complaining about problems with their data services. Some say they didn’t get the data they paid for, while others have reported that their data mysteriously disappeared. Plus, many feel the customer support isn’t helpful.

GTBank is under investigation because of its system issues. These problems seem to be related to the big change the bank was making to its core banking system, which caused a lot of confusion for its customers.

As for Air Peace, some customers are upset about the airline’s ticket prices, especially for certain domestic flights. They say the prices have been unfairly high, which raises questions about how Air Peace sets its prices.

The FCCPC is looking into these issues based on the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act of 2018. This law allows the commission to investigate practices that might hurt consumers or give some businesses an unfair advantage.

The investigations will begin soon. On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the inquiry will start for GTBank. MTN’s inquiry will take place on Wednesday, December 4, and Air Peace will have its inquiry on Thursday, December 5. These investigations aim to get answers, solve customer problems, and make sure the companies are following the rules.
