Wizkid reveals women as musical inspiration, breaks African streaming records

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has credited women as the driving force behind his music. In a recent post on X, which has since been deleted, the afrobeats sensation stated, “Women inspire music! Gods on earth,” highlighting their influence on his creative process.

Renowned for his romantic tracks celebrating women, Wizkid recently released his latest album, Morayo, dedicated to his late mother, Morayo Jane Balogun. The album has set new milestones in African music, breaking Spotify’s first-week streaming records for an African album. In just six days, Morayo garnered 48 million streams, surpassing South African artist Tyla’s previous record of 46.4 million streams.

Additionally, the album recorded the largest opening week for an African project on Spotify, amassing an impressive 52.8 million streams.

With Morayo, Wizkid continues to elevate African music on the global stage while celebrating the profound inspiration women bring to his artistry.
