Pastor Helen Ukpabio demands N200bn in damages from Bloody Civilian over defamation

On Monday, November 25, popular Nigerian pastor Helen Ukpabio demanded N200 billion in damages from singer Bloody Civilian for allegedly defaming her. The pastor, who is the founder of Liberty Gospel Church, is seeking the massive sum following accusations made by Bloody Civilian, who claimed Ukpabio was responsible for “literally making people burn their children alive.”

The singer made the comment on Friday, November 22, in a post celebrating Ukpabio’s 60th birthday on X. Along with the accusation, Bloody Civilian also shared a YouTube documentary critiquing Ukpabio’s methods and ideology.

In response, Ukpabio’s daughter, Imabong, gave Bloody Civilian a five-hour ultimatum to delete the post or face legal consequences.

However, Ukpabio took the matter further, through her legal team, calling the accusation “reckless, satanic, and libellous.” In addition to the N200 billion claim for distress, trauma, pain, and anguish, Ukpabio is also demanding a public apology from the singer.

Not backing down, Bloody Civilian responded on her X handle, humorously mocking the situation by saying, “Guys, they just sued me for 200 billion naira. This December, I will be adding the following to my services: standup comedy, weddings and settling disputes.”
