Model Olajumoke Onibread opens up about abuse by ex-husband

Popular model Olajumoke Orisaguna, also known as Olajumoke Onibread, has revealed that she was physically assaulted by her ex-husband, Sunday Orisaguna, and that he played a role in damaging her career.

In a candid interview with City FM, Olajumoke shared her painful experience with domestic abuse, recounting the difficult times she endured in her marriage. She explained that they lived in her husband’s family house in Ire, Osun State, where she faced constant hostility from her mother-in-law, which led to numerous arguments with her husband. She described how her husband would often beat her, sometimes using a belt, without listening to her side of the story.

“I would have to close my hairdressing shop early just to make dinner, and whenever I had a misunderstanding with his mother, he would beat me. My face and body would be swollen,” Olajumoke said. She went on to explain that she kept the abuse hidden, not wanting her family, especially her mother, to know about it.

Despite her mother’s reluctance to intervene, Olajumoke eventually decided to leave her abusive marriage. She recalled an incident in January 2016, when she was beaten again after an argument with her sister-in-law. That was the breaking point for her. She packed her things, took her two children, and moved to Lagos to work at a bakery, a place where she had previously worked.

Olajumoke explained that she had been financially supporting her husband, who was unemployed at the time, while she worked tirelessly to support the family. However, after their separation, her ex-husband began tarnishing her name, which led to a decline in her career.

Despite the challenges, Olajumoke is now known for her rise to fame in 2016 when she accidentally walked into a photoshoot with British rapper Tinie Tempah, captured by photographer TY Bello, catapulting her to public recognition.
