Defence chief hopeful Ekpa’s arrest leads to extradition to Nigeria
On Thursday, November 21, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), shared his thoughts about the arrest of Simon Ekpa, a man who calls himself the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile.
General Musa said that Ekpa’s arrest could be a very important first step toward bringing him back to Nigeria to face justice.
This news was shared in a statement by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information.
In the statement, General Musa praised the Finnish authorities for arresting Ekpa. He said, “CDS is happy with his (Ekpa) arrest in Finland, with the hope this will be a step towards his extradition to Nigeria so that he will face justice.”
Earlier, the district court in Lahti, Finland, had ordered Ekpa to be held because there was enough reason to believe he had encouraged others to commit crimes with terrorist intent in Nigeria. Ekpa is said to have used social media to spread messages supporting the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a group that wants to create a separate country in southeastern Nigeria.
