Ruben Amorim to break African transfer record for Super Eagles’ Ademola Lookman
Manchester United is reportedly preparing to make a €100 million bid for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes. This move would make Lookman the most expensive African footballer in history.
Lookman, 27, has been in outstanding form, catching the attention of top European clubs after a series of impressive performances. He helped lead Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and also guided Atalanta to the Coppa Italia final. His remarkable performances in Serie A, including a sensational hat-trick that helped Atalanta win the UEFA Europa League, significantly boosted his profile.
His performances also earned him a spot in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings, where he finished 14th.
Earlier this year, Paris Saint-Germain showed interest in the forward, though no deal was finalized. More recently, Arsenal was linked with a move, but it seems the 27-year-old might be heading to Manchester United in 2025.
Ruben Amorim, United’s manager, is ready to make the historic €100 million offer, which would set a new transfer record for an African player. Despite being given a modest transfer budget, Amorim is determined to strengthen his squad and views Lookman as a key player for his future plans at Old Trafford.
