Court cancels Ebonyi PDP congresses after ruling on unfair elections
On Monday, October 28, a Federal High Court in Abakaliki made an important decision that shook up the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State.
The court ruled that all the congresses held by the PDP in the state were not fair and were against the law. This included the elections for ward, local government, and state positions within the party.
The case, which was filed under the name Hon. Nnenna Lynda Udeh & 12 others vs. PDP, was about whether the party had followed the right rules in organizing the elections. The court decided that the congresses were unconstitutional, meaning they didn’t follow the proper legal guidelines.
Because of the ruling, the court ordered that INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, must not recognize any of the officers who were elected during the controversial congresses. This means those elected in the PDP congresses won’t be able to hold official positions or be recognized for any reason.
The court’s decision has caused a lot of buzz in Ebonyi State, as it impacts the future of the PDP’s leadership in the region.
