Eniola Ajao reveals the impact of fake news on her mental health
Yoruba actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao recently opened up about how fake news on social media nearly drove her to the brink of self-harm. She shared her experience during an interview with Nollywood on Radio.
In her emotional recounting, Ajao described the severe distress caused by false reports about her, which led her to withdraw from social activities. “I almost poisoned myself because of news about me on social media that was far from true. It was the first time in my life I faced something so painful that I couldn’t eat for seven days. I didn’t go anywhere. People around me can testify to it.”
She revealed that her family and friends rallied to support her during this difficult time. “My sisters were calling, telling me, ‘You have to do this for yourself. You don’t have to poison yourself.’ My son was reaching out to everyone that I was struggling with the online lies.” Ajao’s story highlights the profound effects that misinformation can have on mental health and well-being.
