Court grants bail to VeryDarkMan with strict conditions

On Friday, November 1, social media commentator Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, was granted bail in the amount of N2 million following his arraignment for impersonation.

The court imposed stringent conditions on his release, including the requirement of two sureties who must each also deposit N2 million.

In addition to the financial stipulations, the court ordered VeryDarkMan to surrender all international passports and any other forms of identification he possesses.

The charges against him arose from the unauthorized use of police uniforms, which was showcased in a viral video clip. The police department condemned this behavior last week, prompting an investigation into the matter.

According to his attorney, Deji Adeyanju, the bail conditions are as follows:

  • Two sureties who must deposit their international passports and provide valid means of identification.
  • The sureties are required to submit affidavits affirming their commitment to ensure the defendant’s presence during the trial.
  • The prosecution will verify the addresses of the sureties.
  • Sureties must present utility bills and reside within the jurisdiction of the court, specifically in the Abuja municipal area.

This case underscores the serious implications of impersonating law enforcement officials.
