Zamfara LG polls: APC takes ZASIEC to court over alleged electoral violations
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has filed a lawsuit against the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) at the Federal High Court in Gusau, accusing it of violating electoral laws in relation to the upcoming local government elections.
At a press conference held at the party’s Secretariat, APC Publicity Secretary Mallam Yusuf Idris Gusau claimed that Governor Dauda Lawal is attempting to manipulate the local government election through the appointment of the ZASIEC chairman.
“How can the governor appoint the ZASIEC executive chairman on the same day he announced the date for the sale of forms and the election on November 16?” he questioned.
He explained that the electoral law requires a three-month notification period to allow political parties sufficient time to prepare for primaries and other necessary arrangements.
Gusau urged party members interested in running for local government positions to hold off for now, assuring them that the party leadership is working to address these concerns.
