Essien optimistic about Edo Queens’ chances in the CAF Women’s Champions League

Edo Queens forward Emem Essien is feeling confident about the team’s prospects as they aim to advance from the group stage of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The reigning Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) champions are set to compete in Group B against formidable opponents: Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies from South Africa, FC Masar from Egypt, and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC.

Essien believes that, despite the strength of their rivals, Edo Queens have what it takes to succeed. “To me, the draw is okay because we believe we will qualify in that group,” she stated in an interview with Nigeria Football. “Having the champions in our group means we need to work harder. If we didn’t have them, the group might feel easier, but I truly believe we can qualify.”

The competition is set to commence in November, and the Edo Queens are ready to take on the challenge.
