Mr Macaroni recounts ordeal with Nigeria Police
Nigerian content creator and activist Adebowale Debo Adedayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, has shared how his 2021 arrest transformed him into a fearless advocate for social justice.
In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Mr Macaroni reflected on his experience in police custody following a protest against the reopening of the Lekki Tollgate after the #EndSARS massacre. He was arrested for defying Lagos State government’s orders during the protest.
Recalling his time in detention, he described being stripped naked and tortured by officers who took pleasure in his suffering. He stated, “All the fear in me disappeared after that experience. It was after these guys tortured me that I saw the hate in their eyes.”
Mr Macaroni emphasized his determination to use his platform to advocate for the oppressed, saying, “God has given me the platform… to speak up for those that cannot speak for themselves. How can I ask others to make sacrifices that I am not willing to make?”
He added that his skits about the experience did not fully capture the severity of what he endured, expressing the gravity of the mistreatment he faced while in custody.
