Super Eagles players and officials are yet to leave the Al Abaq Airport in Libya over 13 hours after arriving the North African nation.
The Eagles are in Libya for the second leg of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya after winning the first leg 1-0 in Uyo on Friday.
The team’s chartered flight which was initially scheduled to land in Benghazi, about 19km to Benani where the game was to be played was unexpectedly diverted to Al Abaq Airport, which is 240km from Benghazi.
While Benghazi-based The Libya Observer had reported that the team had been cleared by the country’s immigration, Bold Sports has gathered that they are yet to leave the airport over 13 hours after arrival.
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface in a post on his verified X, formerly known as Twitter platform revealed this on Monday morning.
“Been at the airport for almost 13 hours no food no wifi no where to sleep African we can do better,” Boniface said in a tweet posted 6:34 a.m. Nigerian time.
The game is set to take place at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benina 8 p.m. Nigerian time on Tuesday.
