Enugu appoints Chidimma Adetshina as brand ambassador

Chidimma Adetshina, the winner of Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, has been appointed as the brand ambassador for Enugu State.

Governor Peter Mbah announced her appointment in a post on X, following a warm homecoming celebration in Enugu, complete with banners, traditional performances, and community festivities.

At just 23 years old, Adetshina has dual citizenship, having been born in South Africa to a Nigerian father from Enugu State and a Mozambican mother. She faced significant challenges during her participation in the Miss South Africa 2024 competition, including backlash over her Nigerian heritage, which led her to withdraw and later win the Miss Universe Nigeria title on August 30.

In his announcement, Governor Mbah praised Adetshina’s resilience and determination, stating, “Her journey to this remarkable achievement is a testament to the grit and perseverance that define Ndi Enugu. I am incredibly proud to congratulate her on this accomplishment and welcome her back home.” He highlighted that her story will inspire young people, particularly women, and noted the state’s commitment to youth development, dedicating 33% of the budget to education.

In her response, Adetshina expressed gratitude for her appointment, reflecting on how being chosen to represent Nigeria came at a challenging time in her life. She wrote on Instagram, “I cannot express my gratitude for all the great things I have achieved in my father’s land.”

As a 300-level law student, Adetshina is set to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico this November. Governor Mbah extended his full support and pride, wishing her success on the global stage, confident that she will continue to shine as a symbol of excellence and resilience.
